Don was born and raised in Oregon, and Salem has been his residence since he was 6 years old. He spent 4 years in Portland, attending Portland Bible College where he met his wife, Ann. They’ve been married 25 years and have two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Rachel. Don & Ann both received a "Bachelors of Theology" degree from PBC. They were married after graduating and immediately moved to Salem to help with Life Church, which was a newly planted fellowship (called Willamette Christian Fellowship at the time). Over their years at church, they’ve been involved in almost every area of ministry. In 1995, Don was set in at the senior leader of Life Church.
Don has a calling similar to that of Joshua's - to lead God’s people into the Promised Land. In the book of Joshua, the Promised Land was the place where God's people could experience first-hand the fulfillment of promises that had been passed down for generations. The words of Jesus in John 10:10 say that "the thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." For too long the people of God have been ripped off. They have not understood or experienced the greatness of the Good News (Gospel). Like Joshua, Don & Ann have a passion to lead people into real life. God’s plan for us is that we might have life as He has life - abundant life. His promises are our inheritance. We get to experience them not only in heaven, but also right here, right now in this broken world as His kingdom is established in the earth.
